Shrödinger's Cat (Photo Credit: Wikipedia)

There once was a man named Erwin Shrödinger. He is a physicist famous for developing an idea called a thought experiment know as Shrödinger’s Cat. Basically, an imaginary cat is sealed in an imaginary box with an imaginary bottle of poison and an imaginary radioactive source. If a  Gieger counter detects radiation, it will smash the bottle and kill the cat, but we won’t know if the cat is alive or not unless we open the box because we won’t know if the radioactivity happened.

When I said it was an experiment of thought? Well, it’s a physical way of saying “You won’t know you until you try.” So, the cat is in theory both dead and alive.

Get it?

    Hi Griffin
I don’t really get it, but my dad does. See you at school.

    Hi Griffin
Remember, it is a ‘thought’ experiment :) (Leonard MADE me write that!)

    Griffin,

I just love stuff like this! It’s fascinating! And what a cool thing to post about!

I’ve included a link to this post in my “blog tour” so my students and others will be stopping by to visit your blog.

Here’s a thought experiment: If someone clicks on a link to your blog and there is a 50% chance that the link will work and a 50% chance that it won’t work, then if it does work, is that only because someone was watching the screen to see if it worked? :)

      Hello Ms. Tatiana,
Thanks for coming to my blog! I’ve visited yours and I must ask, what is the World Star Academy? Thanks for linking in, by the way. For the thought experiment, I’m not sure. It’s happened to me when I’ll click on a link, get distracted, and it won’t work, but then I try again, and it does. I’m not sure if watching effects the link-opening probability, but it sure made me think!
      Bye for now!

        Hi Griffin,

World Star Academy is the name of my private school I started in order to teach my children at home. It’s also the name of the blog I created to help them (and anyone interested) find cool things to learn on the internet. Now the blog is used by students all over the world, and I’m just about to reach 100,000 views. (I’m very excited about it! Maybe you will be my 100,000th viewer!)

I really think blogging is a fantastic tool for learning, so my students have their own blogs, too. In fact, blogs are a great example of how an observer can change the outcome of a situation. For example, if you knew you had 400 visitors a day on your blog, would that make you post more or less often?

        Something to think about!

          Hi Ms. Tatiana,
That’s sounds interesting! Why did you choose that name for your school? I think blogging very helpful in having fun and learning. If I had 400 views a day, I would be verry happy, but I would also post more offen because if I know so many people are viewing my blog, I don’t want to keep them waiting!
          Bye for now!
